Christoph Hartmann, Amazon Games chief, mentioned in an interview with Variety that a reveal is forthcoming: It's not going to be tomorrow, but it's not too far away.

Moreover, Hartmann stressed the importance of maintaining high standards for these games, adding: It has to be triple-A quality, because the bar is so high.

The Lord of the Rings Development Update

Similarly, Amazons collaboration with Embracer Group for The Lord of the Rings MMO was announced in May 2023. Details remain under wraps since its initial reveal.

Set in Middle-earth, the MMO (massively multiplayer online game) aims to explore narratives from The Hobbit and other tales within Tolkiens universe.

Integrating Transmedia Strategies

Beyond gaming, Amazon plans to synchronize its entertainment offerings. Prime Video will host adaptations such as the Tomb Raider live-action series and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Hartmann suggested that these projects do not necessarily need to be interconnected for success, drawing parallels to Sony Group Corps SONY approach with Marvels Spider-Man.

It does not need to be always that everything is mingled together, but it's really one brand, which really just shows for me why transmedia nowadays is so important, and how games is such a vital part, he concluded.
